How We Serve
"The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet.
~Frederick Buechner
Education
Adult Education
Sunday sessions following worship provide a forum for mutual learning and discussion. Topics are drawn from scripture, as well as from the interests and passions of the congregation. A sampling of recent topics include centering prayer; gratitude; the history of Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫˀ (Cayuga Nation) and current day issues indigenous peoples face; combating fear and finding strength in turbulent times; Christian nationalism; and Jesus' teachings related to non violence. Leaders vary based on the topic, and books or films are sometimes used as the springboard for conversation.
Children and Youth Education
Immediately following worship, children ages pre-school through sixth grade gather for a healthy snack followed by a lesson from the "Shine: Living in God's Light" curriculum. Together they explore the day's theme through conversation, crafts, games, and other activities. The Youth Group also meets on Sundays for conversatoins about faith formation and spiritual growth, as well as Bible study. The group also participates in service projects and outings just for fun.

Polliator Garden
Recognizing that all of creation is sacred and acknowledging our call to be responsible stewards of the earth was the impetus for planting a pollinator garden on a small plot facing De Witt Park. Pollinator gardens are vital for maintaining healthy ecosystems and diverse food systems. They provide pollen and nectar, which are crucial food sources and shelter for pollinators like bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and bats. Pollinators, in turn, are essential for the reproduction of many plants, and they are also an important food source for many other animals, including songbirds. FBC’s pollinator garden features plants native to the Finger Lakes region that support native fauna. In maintaining the garden, we follow the these guidelines:

Faith & Fair Trade
Using equitbly sourced products is one way we can live out our commitment to ecological justice. These items include coffee, chocolate, and tea, as well as cut flowers, live plants, and nursery stock. When shopping, look for the FAIR TRADE label or research the sustainablity policies of companies before purchasing their products.

Reducing Waste
We are intentional in our efforts to minimize the use of disposals, especially plastics and items made of styrofoam and are committed to reusing, recycling, and composting.
Clean Energy
Solar panals on our roof generate some of the electricity we use, and a large section of our building is heated and cooled by heat pumps. We have also taken advantage of incentives to convert most lighting in the building to energy saving LED bulbs.
