What to Expect
At First Baptist you will find people from a wide variety of backgrounds and faith traditions. As followers of Jesus, we celebrate diversity, work for equity and justice, and practice full inclusion for all.
Our worship services are hybrid with congregants attending in person and virtually via Zoom. If you would like to join us remotely…
Traditional, but not formal, services usually last an hour and 15 minutes. We sing familiar hymns, devote time to the communal sharing of joys and concerns, and include a special time for our children and youth. Music and preaching are integral to the worship experience. We are uplifted by the offerings of our choir and pianist/organist, as well as occasional soloists, small ensembles, and guest musicians. The sermons are thought provoking and inspiring.
We celebrate communion on the first Sunday of the month. All who come in a spirit of love are welcome at Christ's table.
Following worship, we enjoy coffee and conversation and offer education for all ages at 11:30 a.m.
What to Wear
You’ll find everything from jeans and tees to dresses and shirts and ties. First Baptist Church is not about what you look like or what you wear. Dress in what is comfortable for you!
What We Offer for Children & Teens
Child care is provided during worship, and we also have a supervised table in the sanctuary where children can participate in quiet activities such as crafts and art projects during the service. Younger children and tweens meet for a lesson and snacks following worship. The Youth Group for teens also meets immediately following the service.
Where to Park
We have ample parking on Sundays in the Tompkins County lot. Enter from East Court Street via the driveway between the Court House and "Old Jail" building. Please note that our building has no street frontage, because it is located in DeWitt Park. When using Google Maps, put in 125 East Court Street, Ithaca, NY for directions.
